![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() If you ask me, nearly two hours of playing with a very simple homemade game is pretty good!Ĭurrently, our 10 Apples Up On Top Math Game remains on a tray on our table to be played with again soon, but when we’re ready to put it away, we’ll simply tuck it into a bag and put it on our book / game shelf for when we’re ready to play again! It’s such a simple little game, but our fun started around 9:00 in the morning and continued right up until 10:45 when I suggested we do something else. In this case, Bubba beat her Mama pretty well. without dropping their stack! This seemed to take the perfect amount of time… Our game was never over too soon, and it never took SO long that we’d lose interest in playing. No book! Brad eventually scrounged up a digital version for us to see on the iPad, but after a friend suggested it this morning, I’m guessing that one of Kuwait’s many Instagram shops would have had it! I hadn’t thought of that. We visited bookshops, we visited grocery stores with book sections, we visited our school’s library, and we asked pretty much all of our friends. Not going to lie, this week’s preschool book club was a bit of a tough one… Tough because firstly, we couldn’t find the book anywhere. ![]() ![]() While algorithms are typically associated with computers, they’ve been used by humans for thousands of years to lay out a series of steps to solve a problem or create something, like a recipe. “They don’t need a therapist they need an algorithm.” ![]() “Every harried renter, driver and suitor you see around you as you go through a typical week is essentially reinventing the wheel,” the book’s introduction points out. ![]() New book offers algorithms in an era of too many choices and too little time.Ī new book by Tom Griffiths, a UC Berkeley cognitive scientist, and acclaimed author and computer scientist Brian Christian combines the best of computer science and human intuition to head off an epidemic of too many choices and not enough time.Īlgorithms to Live By: The Computer Science of Human Decisions (Henry Holt and Company, 2016) argues that a successful algorithm is one that focuses on what matters, minimizes regret and does not waste precious time. ![]() |
